Skills Show at Wolverhamption University
Year 8 students visited different stalls at the University where they asked questions of the many employers who were present. There were staff from large companies like Epson, RSPCA, NHS, various universities and colleges, the police, fire and ambulance services and a whole range of other employers. Students were encouraged to find out what qualifications and personal qualities they needed to apply for such jobs and they also attended a life skills seminar. It turns out that the students were better money managers than the staff (Mr Nicklin, at least!). Students had great fun collecting freebies such as pens, sweets, highlighters, note books and contactless payment bracelets! They also got the chance to try tempting goodies like mealworms, crickets and locusts. Many of the students were very brave, eating these insects in true “I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here” style.
When chatting to the students afterwards, they said they found the event really interesting and informative and some even got to speak with employers from their preferred careers. The TPS students showed interest, enthusiasm and maturity, asking some really fabulous questions to the presenters, they were an absolute credit to the school with their behaviour, appearance, conduct and manners.
